HABITAT: It is a small tree found over the plains and foothills throughout India.

BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION:

Ankola is an evergreen tree that reaches up to the height of 6-12 m and branches are more or less spinescent. Its Bark is thin Grey, orange yellow when young. Leaves are membranous, oblong, obtuse, rounded in shape. Flowers are white, hermaphrodite, fragrant, and petals are 5-10 in number. Fruit is oblong, 1.3 -2 cm and is purple red when ripe. The Flowering time is Jan to April and Fruiting time is May to August
