HABITAT:

Datura metel is commonly found in tropical parts of India to temperate parts of Himalayas. Also found all over Bangladesh in road sides and other fallow lands. It is invasive in parts of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Its growth is very good in a fertile calcareous soil.

BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION:

It is an annual herb found in the temperate Himalaya from Baluchistan and Kashmir to Sikkim. Distributed east and west outer Himalaya. Also found in higher mountainous area and in south India also. It is up to 2′ to 4′ high; stem green, violet or black, grown glabrous or minutely pubescent; Leaves are ovate, toothed or sinuate. Flowers are large white sometimes with violet tinge, calyx long, tubular, corolla long, funnel shaped, ovary 2 or spuriously 4 celled; Fruit 4-valves, which split, spinous. Seeds are many, compressed, kidney shaped, of blackish grey colored.
