HABITAT: throughout South and Southeast Asia.
BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION: Generally it is moderate-sized, highly branched. Leaves are mostly opposite, ovate& rounded at base 7.5 to 13 cm. Flowers are dull white or yellowish arrange in terminal spike 5-10cm long. Fruit is ellipsoidal or less distinctly 5-angled.

THERAPEUTIC USES:
- Stomatitis: Cold infusion of haritaki fruit is used for gargling.
- Bleeding gums: Fine fruit powder is used for application.
- Dysentery: Consuming 5gm of stem bark powder is mixed with 50ml of ferula seed soaked water two times in a day.
- Leukoderma: Paste of 15gm of seed crushed in 25ml of water one time in a week.
- Burns: Fruit paste can be applied on burns.
- Sore throat: Fruit roasted a little on burning charcoal is chewed.
INDICATIONS:
Netra rog eye disorder, Rasayana immuno-modulator , Anulomana purgative, Deepana pachana digestive , Jwara fever, Atisara diarrohea ,Amalapitta acidity.
