जीरको जरणोऽजाजी कणा स्याद्दीर्घजीरकः |

HABITAT: Native to the Mediterranean region, now cultivated in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.

BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION:

It is an annual herb 30-50 cm tall. Stem is Slender, glabrous and branched ,Grey or dark green in color. Leaves are 5-10 cm long pinnacle or bipinnate. Flowers are Small, Umbelleated, White or pink in color. Seeds are Oblong longitudinally ridged, yellow brown in color.

MAJOR CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS: Cumaldehyde , Volatile oils

THERAPEUTIC USES:

• Carminative-The seeds improve digestion strength and is carminative.
• Dysentery-It has absorbent properties and can treat diarrhea and dysentery.
• Immunity booster-This is a natural aphrodisiac which improves strength and immunity.
• Increases appetite-The decoction made from seeds are administered to get relief from fever and increase the appetite.
