HABITAT: Vata (Banyan tree) is a big tree distributed all over India in the temperate climate.

BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION:

A large tree with spreading branches sometimes height about of 100 ft. Aerial roots many, some developing into accessory trunk. Leaves are about 4- 8 inch long coriaceous, ovate to elliptic. Fruit is sessile in pair, scarlet when ripe.

THERAPEUTIC USES:

  • Pumsavana:Leaf bud of vata is dissolved in milk and used as nasal drops in the right nostril (3-4 drops) to the pregnant women 2-3 months for attaining male child.
  • Timira:Camphor is mixed with latex of Vata in applied as collyrium.
